Race Day
Hi guys! Sorry that is has been a little while since I have written up a post. I was gone all weekend without a computer and was attending my spartan event. It was my 2nd to last event for this season. Sad but excited to give my body the rest it needs so I can come back stronger next year. This race this past time gave me the assurance that I had made the right decision in choosing to only do sprint distances next year. This next race I have is in 2 weeks. I have about 5 days of working out hard, and then a couples days rest until I have to complete this 14+ mile race. Here is a little recap of this past weekend:
My goals going into this race was to get in the top 12. Yeah that was kind of a high set goal considering I am still working on my injury, but I had set these goals and was hoping I could make it. I am trying to slowly start getting to the top 5. Right now, with my races this year, I have been lucky enough to make it within the top 20, so at the end of this season top 12 was looking not too crazy of a goal. Although I didn't make it into the top 12 in Atlanta, I was still happy with the outcome. I ended up top 30 out of 300 girls. When we took off at the starting line, I felt great. Nothing hurt. I felt stronger and faster then I ever have at any race. Usually mile 1 in, I'm feeling pain somewhere, my shins, my quads, just somewhere, but this time I didn't. I thought for sure, my lungs would burn or my stomach would hurt from not running these last few weeks but sure enough they didn't. I was running up the hills, instead of walking (bad habit I've been trying to break). I was doing and feeling awesome. Then mile 5 hit. I knew around mile 4.5 the pain in my knee would come because I could feel it there. But it didn't actually effect me until mile 5. That was when I was starting to limp just a bit. My husband also left me behind at mile 5 because I was slowing him down at that point. For the next 4.5 miles, I practically limp ran my way through the finish line. After that race I decided sprints would be the best option for me, that way I can focus on going hard for a short amount of time rather then just make it through the last 5 miles. At the beast, coming up in November, I have set a goal for top 15. I have realized that is very unlikely. If my knee gives out again on Mile 5 I will mostly be trying to just finish the last 10 miles. So my new goal for this next race, is to run a burpee free race. I want to focus on each obstacle and make sure to make them all and not be so rushed. So, we will see how that goes.
As for this week, I will be exercising Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And I will update the pages on those days with my workouts. Hope all you guys have a great rest of your day!
